The young Susan, owner of Susan E. Riley, cherished every minute of shopping in her own private design lab, the fabulous "Avenues" of Manhattan. Susan was a girl ardent about the swirl of a gown, enthusiastic concerning weights and textures of silks or piques, and wholeheartedly in love with well turned buttonholes and fastidiously sewn seams. Other kids wanted to ask a neighborhood Mother where the cookie jar might be found. Susan was asking who designed such a beautiful dress.

Her friends and family observed her committed passion for design, and anyone who knew that fashion-scrutinizing young lady was not at all surprised when Susan enrolled in The Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T) in Manhattan. Then, after some exciting "real World" years working for the likes of Bogner, Head, and other renowned innovators of Ski Wear, the prestigious School of The Art Institute of Chicago called out her name, and she answered...

The study of Architecture nearly lured her away from her sketches of swirling French lace dresses and beautiful, feminine blouses and skirts. Nevertheless, in 1990, she felt the loyal longings of Fashion Design and moved lock, stock, and drawing board to La Jolla, California. While attending The Fashion Institute of Design, the very first Susan E. Riley designs began to take serious shape.

Then, one promising Summer of 1993, she chose the chic, lakeside resort of Harbor Springs, Michigan as '' home '' from which to launch an evocative debut collection, all in black and white European fabrics.

The showing of the brand new Susan E. Riley Collection jazzed up the Summer Season and was the talk of the town !  So, with one catchy and pleasing opening, the designs of Susan E. Riley were put into full production, lighting up the Northern sky with fine silks and laces, bashes of pulsing colors, and garnishes of show stopping patterns. Interested customers were caught murmuring, " Hmmm, Susan's designs are fabulously refreshing,'' all the fun and mad mixing of luxurious fabrics and colors in a beautiful, classic Collection. With the majority of her customers spending the Winter season in Florida, a move to Palm Beach was '' fabulously easy '', and from there, the step to the Charity Trunk Show was a natural.

"I am a firm believer in linking my business to organizations that are contributing to our Culture. Trunk shows benefiting the Boy's and Girl's Club, Palm Beach's Children and Family Services, Ocean Reef's Medical Center, The Society of the Four Arts, Habitat for Humanity, and carefully chosen Retail Stores throughout the Country. Her Collection is founded upon unique International fabrics, quality craftsmanship, and limited availability. From the outside, it might be easy to think of Susan E. Riley as just another talented artist, but the tangible elements of heart and soul dwell within all of her designs, in the silk linings, French seams, and bound buttonholes. You will want to experience her Collection, after all, you could step into her lifelong Fashion Dream.
